Well, it's another new year and so many changes in the last year!  We unfortunately lost both Goldmaker and Belafonte d'Avalon last year.  Goldmaker was 22, so had lived his best life.  Belafonte was a bit more difficult as he was only 13 and had so many years left ahead of him.  The young ones are the hardest to say good bye to.

We also acquired several new stallions in late 2020 and early 2021.  ES Sarkozy, Apiro, ES Black Tie and Legaczy all joined our stallion line up. We are excited to see what those boys will produce for us and are looking forward to foaling season!  We have several really spectacular crosses due this year!

The pandemic has certainly altered everyones' lifestyles and hopefully we will all return to a more normal way of living soon!  We wish all of you a very happy and productive and exciting 2022!

CONTEST TIME!!! We're doing something different this year! You see on the graphic there are 13 different images. Each one of those images can be found SOMEWHERE on one of the stallions' pages or one of their offspring pages. In other words, anything to do with the stallions you may find one of the images. Some are easy to locate, some not so easy. For each image that you locate and list with us on which stallion's page you found it, you will receive a 5% discount off a breeding fee of the stallion of your choice, UP TO a TOTAL of 50% off! And just to keep it fun? We have hidden two images (they are NOT on the list to the left) that the first people that locate those two images, will receive a free breeding from the stallion of their choice! Once you have your list complete, e-mail it to [email protected] along with your choice of stallion. We will then send you an invoice for that breeding. The breeding(s) MUST be paid by February 28th, 2018 in order to qualify for the discount. And... if you are lucky enough to find one of the two "special" images (one per person), send us where you found it and your choice of stallion - the winners of the free breedings will b determined by the date and time on when the email is received. Do NOT post your responses on Facebook or Social Media or share them with others - that will get you disqualified! We MUST receive your list via email with your name and address. Contest ends February 14th, 2018 and the two free breedings MUST be used in 2018. Good luck everyone and Happy Valentines Day!

New Contest!! Valentine's Day is just around the corner! Is your mare looking for a love connection? Well, here’s her opportunity to find the stallion of her dreams! Write a love letter from your mare to “her” choice of our stallion line up! We will be giving one breeding to each of our stallions to the best love letter writer! Yup…That’s a winning breeding to Allerbester, Baatesh, Belafonte d’Avalon, Colorado, Dracula d’Avalon, Goldmaker, Hertog Jan v.d. Paddensteeg, Mannhattan and Toronto! How to win? First…you must “like” Avalon Equine’s Facebook page and the stallion of your choice’s Facebook page. You must “friend” Kathy St.Martin (this is because she can’t see your page unless she is a friend and it makes it easier for her to contact you if you win ). You must share THIS post on your timeline. Then write your love letter and post it on the Avalon Equine Facebook page.  Make sure you name the stallion choice by name in the love letter. That’s it! We will select the top love letters on Saturday, February 14th and notify the winner. There will also be two runners up for each stallion and those winners will have the opportunity to purchase a breeding to that stallion for $500. Ready? Set? GO!

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that we had to euthanize Edelweiss de Bonce early this morning owing to colic complications related to cancer. Edelweiss was acquired in France by Catherine Haddad-Staller from breeders Marc and Monique Sattler and competed through to Grand Prix Dressage level. Imported from Germany as Mette Rosencrantz's new ride, he unfortunately suffered a career-ending soft-tissue injury. In 2008 he came to live with us, and we were honored that Catherine entrusted his care to us for the final years of his life. Edelweiss was always a gentleman of the best kind, with a heart as big as he was. Godspeed and gallop free old man. You have left a huge void in our hearts...

As many that follow Kathy on Facebook know, we take great pleasure in photographing fun and whimsy things here at Avalon Equine.  We share those photos on our personal Facebook pages, as well as Dick Duck's page.  But, for those of you who are not friends with Jos or Kathy, the photo we entered into the Nutrena contest of Zoey and our old mare, Mati, was picked up by the Horse Collaborative and an article was written by Carley Sparks. If you are looking for something to make you smile and brigten your day, go check it out!

Wow!  Where'd the Summer go?  It's been a crazy, wonderful year for us.  Our last foal this year (pictured) was Gold Pixie Dust d'Avalon.  Her dam decided to hang on to this little bundle for 375 days.  She was small but mighty when born, but has made rapid progress to catch up in size.

We ended up having 9 foals this year and are really pleased with what we produced this year.  We are looking forward to some spectacular crosses next year including one very exciting announcement.  Stay tuned for a breakdown of the list of things to come.  And of course, please feel free to like our page on Facebook!

Well, breeding season is upon us and even at this late date, we are still waiting for two mares to foal.  Our website updates have been a little few and far between, but we shall try and be a bit more proactive!

With that said, Belafonte d'Avalon and his rider/trainer Rebecca Brown, decided to try a different venue this week and competed at the Blue Ribbon II Hunter Jumper series in Waco, Texas.  In his debut at 1.05, 1.10 and 1.15, Belafonte received a 4th and 5th respectively at 1.05 and 1.10 on June 19th.

In an effort to beat that, on June 20, 2014, the pair placed 2nd in the 1.05 and the 1.15!  Not bad for a short pony amongst full sized horses!  GO TEAM HARRY!!

Today was the final day of the Stadium Jumping at the 70 Day Stallion Performance Test.  We were pleased with how well Dracula did despite being bred for Dressage.  Final days of the testing are December 7th, 8th and 9th, 2013.  We are THRILLED that Dracula's rider and trainer, Philesha Chandler, will be able to attend the last days of the testing to watch her boy go!  Stay tuned for updates after the testing!  Fingers, eyes, ears and toes crossed!

Belafonte and Rebecca Brown finished their round at the American Eventing Championships with a respectable 8th place finish.  Not bad for a pony to end up in the Top Ten Nationally!  They completed their dressage test with a respectable 32.3 (67.7%).  Belafonte had a couple of moments that he showed some tension which was fairly scored by the judge.  Hopefully he will only get better and better!

Belafonte moves up to Preliminary in two weeks at Greenwood HT in Weatherford, Texas!  We couldn't be more pleased with how Rebecca Brown and Belafonte are progressing!  We expect GREAT things in the very near future!

To celebrate Belafonte and Rebecca's recent wins, we at Avalon Equine are offering 10 doses of his frozen semen for $250/dose. Each dose will be accompanied by one breeding certificate. The semen has excellent post thaw motility and has an 81% first cycle conception rate.  But don't wait too long!  The offer is only for 10 doses!

To all our Arabian friends that are AHA members PLEASE sign this petition. There are several Arabian breeders that have bred their mares to Goldmaker that would love to be able to register those babies Anglo Arabian (NOT to be confused with registering them as 1/2 Arabian).

The North American Anglo Arabian Horse Association has a petition on their website regarding registration criteria for the offspring of the thoroughbred parent of a Anglo-Arab.

Currently, the only way you can register said offspring Anglo-Arab with the Arabian Horse Association is if the TB parent is registered with the Jockey Club. The petition is a request for the AHA to consider other criteria for the TB parent to be added, such as DNA testing as proof of lineage.

Goldmaker, although registered Jockey Club, his registration has been "deactivated" because he was conceived via AI.  His offspring out of Arabian mares, while eligible for 1/2 Arabian registration, due to the ambiguous wording of their current requirements, are not eligible for Anglo-Arabian registration.

The petition is at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/anglo-arabian-registration/ You must be a AHA member to sign.

Rebecca Christine Brown flew her Bat Mobile aka Belafonte d'Avalon through the cross country today at Texas Rose HT with a double clear and thereby won her division! CONTEST TIME!!! :). Sooooo I will be flying to Denver, Colorado for 10 days to spend with my daughter and attend her baby shower from March 6th through March 16th, 2013. We've got four mares that are "due" this month. Below are their 340 "due" dates.

Goldmaker x Macy's Rainbow/Mannhattan - March 3, 2013
Escudo II x Morticia/Mannhattan - March 13, 2013
Edward Scissorhands x Pilar/Pointmaker - March 16, 2013
Edward Scissorhands x Piping Hot/Pablito - March 19, 2013

So, here's the deal...Jos will be home alone to monitor all mares. Since we believe strongly in Murphy's Law, I'm betting all four will go while I'm gone :D! But the contest is the person that guesses closest to the correct dates and the sexes of the foals, will win a signed and numbered limited edition of this print. People entering must "like" the Avalon Equine Facebook page and post their guesses on that page, as well. Good luck!

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Lori Smock.  Lori was Mannhattan's competition partner and rode him to Level 8 in the jumpers.  She had been battling cancer for the last several years.  An inspirational woman that always had a positive outlook, even in the face of adversity.  You left a mark on the hearts of all who knew you.  Godspeed Lori...until we meet again!

Harry (Belafonte d'Avalon) won the training level division at the Willow Draw Eventing Derby in Weatherford, TX leading from the dressage. It was his first ever training "event." He did have his first rail ever stadium jumping but he didn't quite understand if he was going cross country or stadium jumping at first!  The derby is A dressage test followed by one jumping round which is a combo of stadium jumping and cross country elements....emphasis on cross country elements and having the adjustability to go back a forth between the two. After his rail, he jumped a foot over everything...he is very competitive at heart! GO TEAM HARRY!!

Lexi snuggles (and sometimes falls asleep) with him every night.
He's really the perfect foal."

Introducing our first foal of the year!  And, it's a filly - an unusual event around here at Avalon Equine!  Of the last 59 foalings we have had, only 6 have been fillies, three in the last two years!  This little gal kept us waiting and spent 359 days "cookin'"!  But we couldn't be more pleased with her.  She is by our cremello Thoroughbred stallion, Goldmaker and out of the striking Hanoverian mare, Persis (Prince Optimus x Grenadine/Grundstein).  Her name is pending and she will be offered for sale.  She will be presented RPSI for registration and branding this summer.  Stay tuned for updates!

April 27, 2012

We are pleased to say we have two confirmed pregnancies today. Morticia (Mannhattan x Faberge/Frohwind) confirmed in foal to Escudo II (thanks Edgar Schutte for getting the shipment out for me - the cobbler's children and all :o) ). This breeding is a for a full sibling to Edward Scissorhands d'Avalon. Edward will be presented this year for his stallion inspection and will go on to the 70 Day Stallion Performance test this fall. The second mare confirmed in foal is Macy's Rainbow (Mannhattan x Delilah/Vosmaer). She is in foal to Goldmaker! Both of these foals will be available for in-utero purchase!

Avalon Equine is  pleased to announce that we will be partnering with Philesha Chandler and our next stallion prospect, Dracula d'Avalon (Davidor x Morticia/Mannhattan).

Philesha Chandler, the head trainer at Chandler Dressage Inc., has been riding since the age of 8. As the winner of Robert Dover's reality TV show, "The Search for America's Next Equestrian Star: Dressage", she had the opportunity to be Robert Dover's assistant trainer for a year.  Over the years Philesha has been offered the opportunities to work with a host of quality national and international riders and trainers, including Oded Shimoni, Lisa Wilcox, Minna Telde, Conrad Schumacher and Dorothy "Dottie" Morkis.

Dracula, a coming three year old colt, is a lovely, elegant colt with a winning temperament and a liquid black coat.  Currently standing 16:1, he will be a good cross for mares that need a bit more substance and a quieter temperament.

We are excited for the future of this pairing and look forward to watching them compete up the ranks.  Stay tuned for more news!  Dracula will be joining Philesha in Kansas later this summer!

"THIS is why I breed to Mannhattan!!"  Mare owner, Tina Poseno was doctoring one of her other horses when she heard her barn help's horrified gasp.  She turned around to see her 6 year old son, Deacon lying on her yearling Mannhattan daughter, Micaela's back with his arms wrapped around her neck.  Tina slowly walked over to the pair, really wanting to RUN, in order to get him off Micaela before the filly startled or spooked.  Nope.  Wasn't going to happen.  Her son protested that he needed his picture taken first!  Tina's rather "tense" expression says it all in the photo, but after she disengaged her son from the Micaela's back, she slowly got up and proceeded to follow the child around quietly.  Thanks for the photo, Tina!  It speaks volumes about the temperament Mannhattan babies have.

Dixieland Jazz d'Avalon (Don Principe x Mata Hari/Mannhattan) has been confirmed in foal to the Hanoverian stallion, Christ.   Christ was second Reserve Champion Stallion in the group of dressage stallions at the Hanoverian licensing in Verden. His large riding horse physique harmoniously forms a perfect picture from the side; a star to decorate his open face and four white socks that give the illusion that he's suspended in air when he moves. There's also maximum elasticity in every phase of his movement and over the jump as well. He masters all of his tasks with a good mind, skill and ability. In short: a stallion that can do anything!

We LOVE crossing our mares with stallions that are versatile with a talent to go either jumping or dressage.  Dixie is out of the same dam as Belafonte d'Avalon and she herself exhibits that versatility, showing exceptional gaits and catlike jumping ability.

This foal will be available for an inutero purchase.

2011 Filly by Mannhattan x Faberge'/Frohwind
July 5th, 2011

Stop the presses!!  Two fillies in a row around here is unheard of!  Our latest filly is by Mannhattan and out of Faberge (Frohwind x Rum Bun xx).  She is the fourth filly we've had out of the last 58 foalings!  She is a full sister to Morticia and we hope will prove to be as beautiful, sweet and elegant as her big sister!   This is a proven cross and one we will repeat for a 2012 foal!

Cherry Bomb
June 30th, 2011

After producing 53 colts out of the last 57 foalings, we are a little bit excited to finally introduce our latest and rare around here FILLY - Calamity Jane d'Avalon (Colorado Skrodstrup x Tatabra Kirsche/Dimitil de Terlong).  She had a rough start with Kirsche stepping on her when she went to rise after foaling and with the heat wave we're having here (105 degrees the day she was born).  But, she seems to be on track for mending.  She is quite a bold, inquisitive filly that knows no stranger.  And, she is quite happy "dirt biking" up and down the ditches and gullies, as well as standing to be hosed down. She is a leggy thing with a beautiful shoulder and type.  She will be offered for sale.  Watch for new photos and updates soon!

Mannhattan
March 1st, 2011

Mannhattan has once again proven himself to be the rock star we know him to be! For the second year in a row, Mannhattan has produced the highest number of site champions at the ISR/Oldenburg N.A. foal inspections in 2010! He has offspring competing successfully in all disciplines as well as a fully licensed son that was approved through his performance successes in Grand Prix Dressage. Well known for producing athletic kids with user friendly temperaments, he has also proven himself to be a fantastic broodmare sire. His daughter, Mata Hari (Mannhattan x Idealiste/Ideal) is Belafonte d’Avalon’s dam and we have an up and coming youngster – Edward Scissorhands (Escudo II x Morticia)– out of another Mannhattan daughter, Morticia (Mannhattan x Faberge/Frohwind) that will be presented and inspected this year. We are excited to see what our Mannhattan daughters will produce this year! Macy’s Rainbow (Mannhattan x Delilah/Vosmaer) is in foal to the Hanoverian stallion, Argosy for a March foal and Morticia is in foal to the Hanoverian stallion, Black Tie for an early June foal. Both of these foals are available for purchase.

We are over the top to announce that both Colorado Skrødstrup and Belafonte d’Avalon successfully completed their stallion performance tests! Colorado became the first Knabstrupper to have successfully completed a 70 or 100 Day Stallion testing and he did so with exceptional scores! By doing so, he became the first Knabstrupper to attain Elite status with the American Knabstrupper Association! Finishing 3rd in Dressage and 5th overall, he astounded spectators and riders alike with his temperament, rideability and athleticism. Receiving 9.5 for his temperament, 9’s for his character, constitution, rideability and trainability, he showed himself to be a super ambassador for his breed. 8’s and 8.5’s for his gaits and jumping rounded out his demonstration of just how versatile the Knabstrupper is! Colorado is now fully licensed and approved KNN, AKA, RPSI (Knabstrupper book) and sBs. We are applying for approval with the Anglo European Studbook which will make Colorado the first Knabstrupper to have been accepted by that registry. Please stay tuned for more information on that. Colorado will go into quarantine on his return home to be frozen for export to Australia, New Zealand and the EU, thereby making him available for breeders in those countries. Frozen semen will be available in Europe sometime in March, 2011!
